Port-Au-Prince, Haiti - December 21, 2009 - HUFH president and founder, actor Jimmy Jean-Louis (Heroes) & Healing Hands director Antonio Kebrau and Dr Bernard Naud hosted Mayor of Port-Au-Prince Jean-Yves Jason, celebrities Olivia Wilde (actress, TV show House), Arnold Antonin (Director), David Belle (founder of Cine Institute Jacmel) and representatives of the U17 national women's soccer team at Healing Hands offices on December 21. Hollywood Unites for Haiti, a non-profit organization whose mission is to support sports and cultural activities of the youth of Haiti, presented the U17 women's team with much needed soccer equipment. The Master of Ceremonies was Haitian comedian Ashley.
"The team have achieved so much already in their endeavor to qualify for the World Cup. They've won all three of their matches and have qualified for the next round in Costa Rica where they will play USA, Costa Rica, and Cayman Islands. They do not have the basic resources; shoes, training gear, sports therapy. We appreciate this initiative by HUFH to provide the team with equipment and Healing Hands' offer of sports therapy for our players," said Georgelie Berry, representative of the U17 team.
"Encouraging these girls to continue all the way to the World Cup can only bring more pride to Haiti. With their talents and a little help whose to say they can't go all the way? They need more help, sponsorship, and encouragement." said Jimmy Jean-Louis.
The Mayor of Port Au Prince said, "Today I want to offer all my services to the team, anyway I can help, please don't hesitate to ask."
Healing Hands Director Antonio Kebrau outlined the work Healing Hands are doing for disabled patients in Haiti and expressed his enthusiasm to be working with HUFH. "This is the beginning of an effort which will grow to and touch many more worthy causes."
In discussing the future of their joint endeavors everyone agreed that opportunities like these are not possible without the donors, in this case Ari Soroka of Canada who donated the soccer gears, and the many volunteers of HUFH and Healing Hands who helped behind the scenes; Karen Calixte, Jonas Petit, Evelyn Jean-Louis, Eric Doubt, Jeff Campbell amongst many others.
